Can you say God is good! I can! Today we all had a chance to see how God provides for His children. The amazing part is God knows what we need long before we do and the sooner we grasp that the better off we will be. So with that said “To God Be The Glory”.
I know so many of you wanted to be here but just wasn’t able, so I want you to be apart of our day through this post. This morning was eventful as the weather sirens went off at 3:00am. I’m not sure but I think the siren was mounted on the building right beside our window! These sirens were different from the ones back in Jacksonville, they had a constant sound for what seemed to be 5 minutes (but was probably only 2 minutes). So I did what we do back at home and turned the TV on and located our local weather man James Span, the tornado was headed right for down town Birmingham! Then the phone rang in the room, when I answered it was a recording for us to move into a safe place. I still don’t have a clue where our safe place was supposed to be .Then James said the tornado took a shift and would go just north of the hospital. Most of the morning was very busy to say the least. When the surgery teams came to get Jenn and Derek from their rooms we followed them down the hall to the surgery prep area. To give you an idea of what this looked liked picture this “The Running Of The Bulls In Spain”. We did not realize we could go with them to the surgery prep area, so we all got a bit behind the patients in route and had to catch up, and can I say Julie is fast!
As I gazed around the waiting area lots of family and friends are here for Derek and Jennifer. I think we took over the waiting area, oops! I’m sure Julie shared the same emotions as I did as we set in the waiting area with our ears as antennas waiting to pick up the signal from the intercom as they would page families to come to the desk to receive information and updates of patients .The sound would first be a beep followed by the last name of the family, example: Would The Borders Family Report To The Desk. I will try to paint a better picture of how it went. Intercom would announce the families name and then four to five people you are there with would say, THEY SAID BORDERS FAMILY and the whole room then looks at you and (this is where my face turns red) you start your journey to the desk that seemed to be a city block away. Once you get off the phone and turn around to walk back to sit down there is a room full of people staring at you like a cow looking at new grass (that’s when my face turns purple) and I make my way back to the family and friends to give the update.
I will share about Jennifer surgery and let Julie or Derek cover the donors surgery. Jennifer’s surgery was a little over four hours with a 2 hour recovery. Through out the surgery the surgery team called me four times to give updates. Once to let me know they had begun, once to tell me they had the kidney in the room and was starting to put it in, once to tell me they had connected the blood supply to the kidney and it was already producing urine and then a final call to tell me they were finished. Jennifer’s surgeon said he was very pleased with how the surgery went.
I want to express my gratitude to each one of you for all your prayers and support over these last few weeks. You need to know the difference you have made in our lives. Jennifer and I have been through a lot in 19 plus years, our faith and trust in Christ and wonderful family and friends have gotten us through it. Stop and look at our story and see what a difference you can make in someones life and how trusting God can make a difference. Then continue to bless someone. Jennifer and I will continue our blog to share her recovery.
I want to end tonight to say thank you to all those who traveled to be with us today, said a prayer, requested prayer, send a card, posted a comment on the blog or fb, we will never forget how special you made us feel.
And a special thanks to one of my best friends who was praying one of the most heart-felt genuine prayers ever this afternoon with Derek and Julie as I was walking up to knock on Derek’s door to check on him after the surgery, THANKS! Your prayer is one that I wished all could have heard as you prayed for Derek and his family, our church, and the humility and selfishness of a pastor who truly loves his church family!!!
I’ve had a long two days and not much sleep, so please overlook any misspelled words, and of course always the grammar!
Pressing on,
Jason
